Portland Thorns Secure a 2-0 Victory Over OL Reign

Portland moved to 5-1-4 and now sit on top of the NWSL standings while the Reign fall to 5-4-1.

The Portland Thorns emerged victorious in a huge rilvary matchup against the OL Reign, earning a 2-0 win. The match, held as part of a doubleheader at Seattle's Lumen Field, drew an impressive crowd of over 42,000 passionate fans.


In the 17th minute, Sophia Smith broke the deadlock by dribbling past her defender at the top of the box before calmly slotting the ball into the lower right corner. The goal was set up by Hina Sugita.


Despite their opponents' 15 shots, Thorns goalkeeper Bella Bixby stood tall by making four crucial saves, earning a well-deserved clean sheet. With strong defensive discipline, the Thorns effectively neutralized OL Reign's threats and denied them any opportunities to get on the scoresheet.


In the 87th minute, Morgan Weaver delivered an accurate cutback pass from the byline, finding Christine Sinclair waiting at the top of the box. Sinclair made no mistake and calmly finished the opportunity, doubling Portland's lead and putting the game beyond reach for the Reign.
