Vanderbilt Men's Basketball Overcomes Eight-Point Deficit to Secure NIT Win Against Michigan

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt men's basketball team staged a stunning comeback in the final minute to defeat Michigan 66-65 in the second round of the NIT at Memorial Gymnasium on Saturday. Vanderbilt's Tyrin Lawrence sparked the comeback with a 3-point play with only 58 seconds remaining. He capped off the rally with a driving layup after a turnover with only 12 seconds left to secure the victory for the Commodores (22-14). Lawrence finished the game with a game-high 24 points.


The Dores had trailed Michigan by eight points before going on a 9-0 run in the final minute of the game. Vanderbilt's Ezra Manjon contributed 17 points, making a pair of free throws and a driving layup during the team's comeback effort. Colin Smith scored all 11 of his points for Vandy in the first half.


Lawrence also grabbed nine rebounds, with Quentin Millora-Brown contributing five. Meanwhile, Hunter Dickinson led the Wolverines (18-16) with 21 points and a game-best 11 rebounds. Dug McDaniel scored 19 points for Michigan.


The Commodores will now await the winner of Sunday's second-round game between UAB and Morehead State. Vanderbilt will host the winner of that game on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
